Ilsan Quilt Show

Discovery

My husband and I went to Seoul, South Korea November 11-21, 2008 to visit our granddaughter who is there teaching English. While walking to the large Lake Park, we spied a Quilt Shop. What a surprise! My husband's first remark, "You quilters are everywhere."

The shop was closed, but with the little bit of English on the sign, we figured out that the owner was at a show. We understood the show dates and times, but not the location.

We copied the web address, took it to our hotel desk, and they read the Korean message and told us where to find the quilt show. It was not far so off we went.

This picture is from the webside of the quilt shop owner.

Theme is Quilting through Fairy Tales

Show by the Ilsan Quilters Club

Most of the Quilts are based on children's fairy stories that most will recognize. Since I couldn't read the titles unless they were marked in English, the photos are not titled. Most are self-explanatory. A few are from Korean Fairy Tales.

All the quilts but one are sewn completely by hand -- the piecing, applique, and quilting stitches! Most are fairly large, some are bed-size. The smallest dimension is about 18 inches. Notice the orchids!

ENJOY!

Another Peter Pan. Sorry, some of my photos are dark. Because the room was well lit, the flash didn't fire. The highlight on this one is from the light fixture above it.

This featured machine quilting, the only sign of a sewing machine in this show!

This one was displayed under glass, hence the odd glare in the photo.

Harry Potter, a modern day fairy tale!

Sinbad?

The Rabbit and the Turtle, a Korean Fairy Tale

The rest of the pictures are the more traditional quilts in the show. These were also all handmade, mostly about a twin bed size or smaller.

Detail from this hand-pieced and applique beauty, also hand quilted.

Detail from Log Cabin, again, all hand-pieced and hand quilted.

And this one also came with a matching pillow!

Critters hung from the ceiling.

This one was hanging by the door. The white in the background is actually the wall. If I could speak Korean, I would know how she made it!

And orchids everywhere . . .
